CHAIN & THE GANG (us/K-Recs.)

der niemals müde Prince des post-punk, Mr. Ian Svenonius (The Make Up/Nation Of Ulysses) zurück mit neuer platte. soul.lo-fi.detroit.garagen.protest.folk.gospels – zu tiefst unterhaltsam, aufgeladen in der ihm eigenen rethorik und tief getränkt in der tradition farbiger protestmusik der 50er/60er und wie gewohnt 100% stilsicher…

Die Gang um Ian Svenonius (The Make Up, Weird War, Nation of Ulysses…) vereint seit ihrem Debüt “Down with Liberty…Up with Chains!” “What is a group?” fragt Svenonius im Titel seines neuen Kurzfilms.

LENTO (Rome, Italy – Denovali / Supernatural Cat)

Lento is an instrumental musical venture commenced in Rome, Italy, in fall 2004 whose main purpose is to give shape to an introspective approach with relentless efforts. It took 3 years to develop as an artistic issue and to give birth to Earthen, released in 2007 on behalf of Supernaturalcat, with Relapse supplying US distribution. This led events to a few years of great empathy in learning to be a musician, and to find a way to take responsibility of a 2nd album whose conveyed in „Icon“, released in 2011 on Denovali records. Then the way back to the need of an outward appearance. Europe took care of this.

Mi | 21:00 | UT Connewitz | Wolfgang-Heinze-Straße 12a | Leipzig

LOSS (Nashville, Tennessee, USA – Profound Lore (CAN) / Parasitic Records (USA) / Contagion Releasing (USA))

gives us a much more sorrowful take on Sludge / Doom with their mournful rhythms, low growls, and an all around atmosphere of gloom that they give off. Theirs is a much mellower and slow sound and they express the emotional landscape of their music excellently. They continue the kind of music that is best played during for or rain to best emphasize the sorrow being put forth by these guys. Loss makes some of the saddest, yet most effective death/doom out there.

WORSHIP (Munich, Germany – Weird Truth (JP))

has originally been a French / German Funeral Doom band, when founded in 1998. Nowadays their center is in Germany. Lead by Daniel „The Doommonger“ Pharos, they are working on our 3rd album & 10th release. Since 2005, they play the occasional awesome live gig around the world.

WHEN ICARUS FALLS (Lausanne, Switzerland – Get a Life Records (CH))

‚Since 2007, WHEN ICARUS FALLS play a heavy post-metal throughout Europe without any consideration for a genre whatsoever. After an acclaimed EP in 2009 and a long one in 2012 called AEGEAN, they‘re coming back on February 4th with a brand new EP: CIRCLES.

Recorded by Raphaël Bovey at Blend Studio for the drums and at WIF’s rehearsal room for guitars and voices, CIRCLES is in the direct continuation of the previous albums.
Between hazy atmospheres reminding the first EP – OVER THE FROZEN SEAS – and heavy riffs echoing AEGEAN’s grand final, this new episode should delight fans of the genre.'‘

eagle twin. twinesuns.

Di | 6. Mai | 21:00 | Hühnermanhattan | Hordorferstraße 4 | Halle

Eagle Twin (USA, Southern Lord, Sludge/Doom)

Behold the debut album from Eagle Twin. Although Eagle Twin is a very new entity its helmsman: Gentry Densley is no stranger to innovative, heavy music. Densley was the musical visionary and leader of the legendary Jazz, Prog, Rock, Metal, Hardcore group Iceburn from 1991-2001. Iceburn has been called the greatest and most important musical offering from Salt Lake City since the Osmonds! Gentrys‘ playing has been very influential to alot of successful modern music groups such as: Isis, Pelican, sunn 0))) etc.. In order to disseminate his majestic and mountainous riffs in the present day he enlisted massively behemoth skinsman Tyler Smith. The drums are not only a driving force that efficiently steam rolls over you they conjure a repetitious mantra that is eerily infectious.
Although Iceburn was primarily a instrumental force with Eagle Twin Gentry is much more vocal and the depth of his lyrics is endless. His vocal evocations bring to mind the hoarse rasp of Tom Waits and Howlin Wolf but possibly channeled through Tuvan throat singers! His voice, is used much like an instrument and often times creates a unique drone of its own. The riffs and music definitely have familiar reference points (Caspar Brotzmann Massaker,Earth, sunn 0))), Melvins etc..) but are crafted in a way that stands miles beyond the others.

Twinesuns (De, Drone/ Doom)

Twinesuns is a band formed by C. from Germanys NVRVD and Thor Ohe (ex- Kinsai, DNAmplified). With two guitars and a ton of different amplifiers, cabinets and pedals, the music developed in the drone/doom/ambient-metal direction. No need to mention the influence from bands like Sunn O))), Earth, Sleep, etc.

pontiak. sleepy sun.

Mittwoch | 23. April | 21:00 | UT Connewitz | Wolfgang-Heinze-Straße 12a | Leipzig

PONTIAK (us// thrill jockey) | SLEEPY SUN (us// atp)

A Storm of Light | H A R K | Mustard Gas & Roses
